Galesburg woman arrested for DUI after striking power pole.

Just before 3:30 pm on Monday, October 5th, Galesburg Police were dispatched to the area of East Fremont and North Farnham Streets for reports of an accident involving a car striking a power pole. Upon arrival, officers told the driver of the car to remain inside the vehicle until Ameren and Galesburg Fire arrived. Witnesses told police they saw the vehicle traveling west at a high rate of speed from the underpass on East Fremont, strike a curb on the north side of the road, then strike the pole on the south side of the street. According to police reports, witnesses also told police the driver attempted to start the vehicle and drive off before switching seats with the passenger. GPD then conducted a field sobriety test with the rightful driver: 29-year old Katherine Cox of Galesburg. After failing the test, Cox was placed under arrest for Driving Under the Influence and Speeding 26 to less than 35 over the posted speed limit.
