The City of Monmouth is waiting on approval from the aeronautics division of the Illinois Department of Transportation on the replacement of the hangar at the city’s airport.

Lew Steinbrecher, the Maple City’s City Administrator, says that the engineer has submitted the building plans for the hangar and site location and just waiting on approval from IDOT.

“So, we are waiting to hear back from IDOT aeronautics to put their blessings on it,” Steinbrecher told WGIL in a Tuesday morning interview.

“Then we’ll be ready to go out to bid for that project, hopefully later this fall. Moving forward, I don’t know if we can get the concrete poured yet before the snow flies but that is our hope. If not, it’ll be next spring before we can start construction.”

Steinbrecher adds that the new hangar would be on the west side of the property. The hangar that burned down in October was on the east side of the runway.
