Galesburg Heritage Days
August 17, 2019 - August 18, 2019
FreeOne of the Midwest’s largest living history events held at an absolutely beautiful location.
New for 2019, we will be bringing the HL Hunley Traveling Exhibit to Galesburg Heritage Days civil war encampment from South Carolina. In 1864, armed with a 90-pound charge of powder on a long pole, the Hunley attacked and sank a new Federal steam sloop, USS Houstatonic, at the entrance to Charleston Harbor. In 1995 the wreck of the Hunley was located. The Hunley crew will share their full size Confederate submarine replica with stories, pictures and bios of each 1863-1864 crewman. The Hunley will be on exhibit Saturday and Sunday at the Civil War reenactment grounds. Admission is free.
Come share in the excitement with almost 1,000 fellow reenactors and over 40 merchant/sutlers. All of our vendors do have period correct clothing, tents, and trade goods! Make plans to join us at Galesburg Heritage Days, a free public admission family friendly event. Featuring both a pre-1840 Early American Colonial/Frontier Rendezvous, and a thoroughly fielded Civil War Battle Reenactment within walking distance of each other!
