SUMMARY:"Great Decisions" discussion on "The United States and Mexico"
DESCRIPTION:The relationship between the United States and Mexico will be the topic of the next Great Decisions program at Monmouth College on March 13. \nMonmouth political science professor Andre Audette will introduce the topic at 7:30 p.m. in Room 276 of the College’s Center for Science and Business. \nThe bordering countries have a long\, intertwined history\, with both the United States and Mexico prominently featured in each other’s politics and agendas. The war on drugs\, immigration and trade issues have taxed the relationship over the years. \nAmong other questions\, Audette and the Great Decisions group will discuss what impact new leadership in both countries will have on the crucial U.S.-Mexico partnership. \nCalled “America’s largest discussion program on world affairs\,” Great Decisions is a nationwide program sponsored by the Foreign Policy Association\, a non-partisan\, non-governmental association that works to increase Americans’ understanding of foreign policy issues.

SUMMARY:Monmouth-Roseville Spring Musical: "Curtains"
DESCRIPTION:The Monmouth-Roseville High School Performing Arts Program will present its annual spring musical\, Curtains\, on March 15 and 16 at 7:00pm and March 17 at 2:00pm at the Monmouth-Roseville High School Auditorium. \nFeaturing a book by Rupert Holmes and music and lyrics by the legendary John Kander and Fred Ebb\, Curtains is the story of what happens to the cast and crew of the Broadway-bound Robbin’ Hood (an Old West re-imagining of the Robin Hood tale) when their leading lady drops dead during the opening night curtain call.  When a local detective with his own dreams of stardom arrives to tell them that the cause of death was murder\, the assembled members of the cast and crew find themselves sequestered in the theatre as the crime is investigated.  It is not long before the romance blossoms\, musical numbers are revamped\, and the bodies start piling up. \nThe cast features twenty-six M-R students including seniors Jake McLaughlin (Lt. Frank Cioffi)\, Abby Newcomb (Sasha Iljinsky)\, Joseph Peneueta (Roy Stetson)\, Flavio Petrini (Oscar Shapiro)\, Opal Scott (Jessica Cranshaw)\, and Allie Wise (Georgia Hendricks); juniors Brian Patnode (Bobby Pepper)\, Tim Pence (Aaron Fox)\, and Cullen Vickroy (Harv Fremont); sophomores Iratze Aceves (Marjorie Cook)\, Carlos Alcala (Sidney Bernstein)\, Kayla Pinedo (Joni Harmon)\, Allison Serpico (Peg Prentice)\, and Ella Weidman (Roberta Wooster); and freshmen Kelsey Bricker (Connie Subotin)\, Adrionna Butler (Jane Setler)\, Kendall Ferry (Bambi Bernet)\, Allie Lewis (Arlene Barruca)\, John Mattan (Randy Dexter)\, Kena McCance (Mona Page)\, Mary-Isabel Newcomb (Niki Harris)\, Zakari Ortery (Brick Hawvermale)\, Leslie Quintana (Carmen Bernstein)\, Tanner Trego (Detective O’Farrell)\, Owen Walters-Kramer (Daryl Grady)\, and Graham Young (Christopher Belling).  Junior Logan Trego serves as the assistant director and stage manager for the production.  The show is directed by Melissa Agar with musical direction by Kevin Ferry and choreography by Erin Darling.  M-R band instructor Kyle Barshinger will conduct the pit orchestra. \nTickets for Curtains are $8 for adults and $5 for students with ID.  Children under six are admitted free. \nCurtains is produced with special arrangement by Theatrical Rights Worldwide.

SUMMARY:Monmouth College Chorale "Home" Concert
DESCRIPTION:After a one-week tour of Texas\, the Monmouth College Chorale is coming home. \nThe Chorale will present its tour performance in a “home concert” at 7:30 p.m. March 15 in the Kasch Performance Hall of Dahl Chapel and Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public. \nUnder the direction of Associate Professor of Music Tim Pahel\, the Chorale performed over the College’s spring break at three Texas churches and also sang at notable landmarks in the Lone Star State\, including the Open-Air Rotunda at the State Capitol Building in Austin\, and the Alamo and the River Walk in San Antonio. \nSome selections for the March 15 concert – which will include works by a range of classic and contemporary composers – will be sung by the Chamber Choir\, a group of highly skilled vocalists chosen from the Chorale membership. \nThe highly selective\, 33-member Chorale maintains an active and demanding rehearsal and performance schedule. In addition to serving as centerpiece for the annual “Christmas at Monmouth” concert\, it performs regularly both on and off campus. The Chorale engages students from nearly every major at Monmouth\, giving its members well-rounded musical experiences with high expectations for performance and competency. \nThe Chorale has toured extensively\, visiting nearly half the states in the country\, including a performance in New York City’s Carnegie Hall in 2017.
