Cottage Hospital to close transitional care unit

Cottage Hospital will be closing their transitional care unit.
The closure will likely come in early March, with the hospital promising staff will work with patients to make completion of care seamless.

Spokeswoman Eileen Inness says that implementation of what’s called the Marshall Steele orthopedic surgery program helped reduce inpatient post-op length of stay last year.

Inness says the program reduces the number of patients requiring transitional care unit services and thereby reducing the need for the unit.

Cottage will also be expanding its older adult behavioral health unit with additional beds.

Behavioral health issues the unit helps with include but aren’t limited to depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts.

Cottage CEO Barry Schneider says this expansion is an adaptation to the “changing needs of the community.”
