6th COVID death in Warren County, area counties setting records for new cases

The Illinois Department of Public Health announced the death of a male in his 80’s from Warren County on Tuesday related to COVID-19.

This is the sixth death from the coronavirus that’s been reported in Warren County since the beginning of the pandemic and the third in the past week.

Warren has had more deaths now than Knox County’s five, despite having a population nearly 1/3 of Knox.

Meanwhile, both Knox and Warren have seen surging numbers of new positive cases.

From last Tuesday to today Knox County cases have increased 17 percent, and Warren positives have grown by 10 percent.

For Knox, that means 143 new cases, and for Warren County, that’s 36 new.

That’s by far a one-week record for Knox County,.

It took from March to early July for Knox County to reach the same amount of cases that were reported last week.

The statewide recovery rate from COVID-19 stands at 96 percent.
