Galesburg man seeks Knox County Board seat

A Galesburg barber has filed with the election commission to run on the Democratic ticket for the Knox County Board in District three.

29-year-old Kyle Rohweder is seeking the seat being left by the outgoing Barb Foster.

Rohweder, who has not held an elected post in the past, tells WGIL he thinks that is something that will bode well for him.

“I think that I could have something a little different to offer to the board, especially since I would be representing constituents that otherwise might feel like they have no voice or no representation.”

Rohweder says he comes from a different background than most, offering a younger voice, having involvement in the local art scene and as he says “connecting with the average person.”

The board faces a number of difficult issues moving forward including keeping it’s financials in check. On the heels of $1.2 million in cuts to line up the county budget, Rohweder says in lieu of cuts, the board needs to find other fixes.

“I feel that instead of always having to make cuts, I think there are some creative ways for creating revenue that maybe otherwise are not always explored.”

As of now, Rohweder has no competition for the district seat.
