The Galesburg City Council is expected to approve a bid this evening to resurface Fremont Street on the stretch from Seminary to Farnham streets.
The project comes under the heading of the city’s capital improvement plan, which was approved along with the budget in December.
Aldermen passed a capital utility tax last year that pays for a $10 million bond issue that funds part of this and a series of future infrastructure projects.
Gunther Construction is the lowest bidding contractor if council approves the bid.
Council members will also be asked tonight to approve external agency funding requests for FY2016.
In the past organizations and events like Galesburg Railroad Days, Boys & Girls Club of Knox County and Knox County Habitat for Humanity have received these funds from the city.
Last year 14 agencies were awarded dollars from the council despite pushing the city’s budget into a $10,000 deficit.
