Dog killed in apparent weekend shooting incident

Galesburg police responded to a home in the 600 block of Brooks St., Saturday to find a pit bull killed from an apparent gunshot.

Officers arrived shortly before 3 a.m. where they found the dog in a pool of blood alongside evidence that at least a single shot had been fired inside the residence. 

According to police reports, a shell casing was found on a kitchen table. A witness said she heard the dog barking “a lot” minutes before hearing the shot in a downstairs living room. 

No one else was harmed and there have been no arrests in the shooting. 

The homeowner told police an Xbox 360 and TV were believed to had been stolen by the intruder, as well. 

Pending charges include aggravated discharge of a firearm, burglary and armed violence. An investigation is on-going.
