Inmate charged with aggravated battery for hitting jail staff

A Galesburg man already in the Knox County Jail for drugs was charged today for battering two jail deputies.

Thirty-nine-year-old Joshua Sundberg now faces two counts of aggravated battery and a single count of criminal damage to property.

Knox County Court documents indicate Sundberg “caused bodily harm” to one deputy by causing a laceration to the officer’s nose. In that attack, Sundberg also broke the deputy’s glasses causing damage exceeding $300.

The second battery charge stems from hitting another deputy in the head.

Sundberg appeared via video before Judge Stephen Mathers this afternoon who set bond at $75,000 and appointed a public defender in the case.

The Galesburg man will have re-appear in court in November in correlation with the previous drug case.

Records indicate Sundberg was arrested in August on meth charges.
