A new food stand will be opening in the Sandburg Mall this Saturday.
Pop Culture will open in the former Karmelkorn and Orange Julius space, selling gourmet popcorn and more.
Owner Isaac Haycraft jokes that he’s bringing the “food smell” back to the mall with the opening.
Haycraft tells WGIL there’s a lot on the menu that Galesburg will be able to choose from.
“We have 15 flavors of popcorn,” Haycraft. “We have 10 flavors of shaved ice, we’ve got 10 flavors of slushies, we have four flavors of phosphates which is like old fashioned soda and we’ve got ice cream sodas, like rootbeer floats.”
For those adventurous food lovers, menu items even include sweet & spicy jalapeno crunch, oreo and blueberry lemonade flavored popcorn.
Haycraft says he chose Sandburg Mall because it was a good fit for the business, which he says was inspired by his cousin who also owns a popcorn store.
“I think that after KarmelKorn left it kind of saddened people,” Haycraft says. “To bring something like that back was going to create a destination for us because it’s what people love, it’s what people want. They want popcorn and they’ll come to us no matter where they are.”
Haycraft will largely run the location by himself. Pop Culture opens at 9 a.m. Saturday.
