Galesburg man arrested for battering children with extension cord

A Galesburg man appeared in Knox County Circuit Court this afternoon on charges for allegedly battering his two step children with an extension cord.

Thirty-eight-year-old Etzel Glass faces a single count of aggravated battery to a child and one count of domestic battery.

According to a Galesburg police report, Glass was arrested at his place of work yesterday afternoon. The call began in the 1000 block of Maple Avenue after police responded in accordance with a Department of Children and Family Services investigation.

The Assistant State’s Attorney’s office alleges that Glass struck a six year old girl and 14 year old boy with an extension chord four to six weeks ago. When police investigators arrived on scene yesterday, they witnessed scars on the children’s legs believed to be in connection with the battering.

Judge Stephen Mathers set bond at $75,000 and appointed a public defender. Glass will re-appear in court, Monday at 11 a.m.
