Galesburg Library frees itself of wasps

Galesburg Public Library staff are breathing a little easier now that unwanted visitors have been removed from the building.

Library Director Harriet Zipfel reported last night that an infestation of wasps had been buzzing around.

Zipfel tells WGIL the wasps were flying around the stacks but the problem has now been taken care of.

“They had built a nest up inside the green trim on the outside of the building and somehow managed to find their way inside,” Zipfel says. “We didn’t have a whole swarm, but we had quite a few. Nobody got stung, but it caused some consternation.”

In other business, the Board of Trustees approved an FY17 budget for the library with only minor changes from last year.

Zipfel says the personnel line item is slightly larger due to a pair of expected retirements.

Also the electricity line item is slightly larger, reflecting rising power costs.

Guy Cahill has stepped down from the library’s board of trustees.

Cahill was chair of both the finance and building committees.

Board President Martin Reichel appointed trustees Laurie Muelder to chair the building committee and Elisha French to chair the finance committee.
