205 board members further discuss 35 cent levy increase tonight

Further discussion on District 205’s tax levy is expected tonight at their school board meeting.

Last month, Superintendent Ralph Grimm proposed upping the district’s levy by 35 cents with the hopes they can achieve a balanced budget by 2018.

Grimm discussed raising levies in the tort and transportation fund.

Discussion tonight and a public hearing is to follow on the tax levy but on final read tonight is a board policy change regarding dual enrollment courses.

A program opening up Pell Grants to high school students taking Carl Sandburg College courses inspired the board to consider increasing the maximum number of classes a GHS student could take at CSC from six to eight.

Also after the board had discussion in September on how to handle increase building use requests from the city of Galesburg and YMCA, at least one agreement has been reached.

The board can approve an agreement with the city tonight.

Further discussion is expected on the agreement with the ‘Y.’
