Vicki Miller has served the Galesburg police department and Knox County 911 communications for more than 30 years.
Miller will retire next month but her years of service have not gone unnoticed. Police Chief Dave Christensen calls Miller an “invaluable resource.”
He tells WGIL that she’s had an influence on almost everything 911 related, ranging from her early work as a dispatcher and an IT specialist to being instrumental as a coordinator, implementing the county’s new digital 911 system.
“She was the leader of that project, she was tasked with doing that project and that was a months even years long project from start to finish,” Christensen says. “There’s been other projects. Way back when we first had a viable CAD system back in 2003, she was very much a part of that.”
Miller was recently recognized for her work on a statewide level. Illinois’ public safety telecommunication association joins with the Illinois chapter of a national emergency number association to honor an individual each year with an excellence award.
Miller says she’s very grateful for the award and the appreciation from her co-workers.
“I’ve just been very blessed and fortunate throughout my career, “Miller says. “I’m very thankful.”
She adds that throughout her career, she simply took advantage of the opportunities she was given.
