Hill Arcade, two other downtown buildings sold

A Galesburg business owner who says he’s eyed a couple downtown properties for a long time, has officially purchased them.

Joe Mangieri, president of Mangieri Electric, confirms he has purchased the Hill Arcade building at Main and Kellogg Streets, the building housing the Galesburg Community Foundation next door, and the building housing CII Embroidery at 56 South Kellogg Street across from the Orpheum Theatre.

The seller is MAK Properties, owned by Mark and Jeanette Kleine. Mangieri, who declined an on-interview request, tells WGIL he’s been interested in the properties since before the Kleines owned them. But he says the time was never right to purchase, due to other projects and other considerations, until now.

Mangieri describes all three properties as “really good”, but also says the Hill needs heating and air conditioning work done soon. But the first project will be replacing the elevator, and he’s already working with contractors on that.

Work, once it begins, is expected to take a month. Mangieri expects to make improvements on all buildings periodically over the next several years, and says he’s “not in the market” to purchase any other buildings right now.
