Firefighters put out weekend fire on Willard Street

A house fire at a Willard Street residence is under investigation after firefighters extinguished flames Sunday morning.

According to a release from the city, firefighters responded to 1528 Willard at around 11:15 in response to a structure fire.

11 fire personnel responded to the scene from all three stations in town. Fire crews en route received information that the resident and a dog may have still been in the home. Upon arrival, smoke and flames were seen coming from the rear of the one-story home.

The release says that Battalion Chief Derek Perry established command and an attack team quickly extinguished the fire while the rescue team did locate a female subject. She was taken to a hospital by ambulance. Her current condition is unknown.

The dog exited the home safely on its own.
