Motorist who plan to take Illinois 164 in Henderson County between Monmouth and Oquawka over the next 10 months or so will have to contend with road construction.
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced on Thursday that the state highway will be getting worked on starting Monday, September 14, and will wrap up in July of 2021.
The project will begin at the Warren County line and stretch to Oquawka and include resurfacing, replacement of curbs and gutters, and upgrades to guardrails and pedestrian accommodations.
Daytime lane closures will be necessary during the work. Delays can be expected and drivers should allow extra time for trips through the area. The use of alternate routes should be considered to avoid the work area.
Motorists are also urged to pay attention to changing conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices, and be alert for workers and equipment.
IDOT says that over the next six years, they plan to improve more than 3,300 miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge decking as part of the Rebuild Illinois capital program, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation.
Year One of the program includes $2.7 billion of improvements statewide on 1,706 miles of highway, 128 bridges, and 228 additional safety improvements.
